Biography | Organist

Benedict Todd is an organist, composer and conductor based in Cambridge, UK. He is the Organist and Assistant Director of Music at Great St Mary’s, the University Church in Cambridge, where he accompanies and helps to rehearse, direct and run the church’s several junior and adult choirs. He also works as a freelance performer, conductor and teacher.

Benedict grew up in East Anglia, singing as a treble in the choir of Ely Cathedral. He studied at the University of Bristol, first for a BA in Music, followed by an MA and then PhD specialising in composition. During this time, he held the posts of organ scholar at St Paul’s, Clifton (where he also directed the University Church Choir) and, latterly, of Assistant Director of Music in Dursley (Glos.). He spent a year between his MA and PhD studies working as the organ scholar at Blackburn Cathedral. Benedict is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists and is in growing demand as a recitalist and accompanist.

Benedict Todd is a composer, organist and conductor based in Cambridge, UK. He studied at the University of Bristol, first for a BA in Music (2010) and then an MA specialising in composition (2011). He completed his PhD in Composition in 2017, having studied under the supervision of Dr Michael Ellison. He has written for a variety of musical forces, including choral, orchestral and chamber works, many of which have been performed in locations across the UK, Republic of Ireland and Turkey. Commissions have come from the Hezarfen Ensemble, New Music South West and the University of Bristol Contemporary Music Venture.
