Biography | Organist
Benedict studied at the University of Bristol, where he was the University Organ Scholar at St Paul’s Church, Clifton. He has subsequently held positions as the post-graduate Organ Scholar at Blackburn Cathedral, as Assistant Director of Music of St James-the-Great, Dursley and, for seven years, as the Organist and Assistant Director of Music at Great St Mary’s, the University Church. He is currently the Director of Music at All Saints’ church in the Lincolnshire market town of Stamford.
He has studied under the tutelage of Jonathan Lilley and, during his undergraduate studies when he specialised in performance and composition, with Dr David Ponsford, as well as participating in masterclasses, workshops and on courses with renowned organist tutors such as Robert Quinney, Anne Page, Simon Williams and Colm Carey, amongst others. He has played in churches, cathedrals and concert halls across the UK and Republic of Ireland, and is in regular demand as a recitalist and accompanist. Benedict is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists.

Song without words
Arthur Wills
This performance of Arthur Wills’ Song without words was recorded by Benedict at the Parish Organ of Great St Mary’s in April 2022. Arthur Wills was, at one time, the Director of Music at Ely Cathedral, where Benedict was later a chorister. This evocative piece was written ‘In memoriam Sergei Rachmaninov’.
